DP Door Company has a wide selections of 8' tall fiberglass doors.
On this page you will see a sample of tall doors.
DP Door has been installing fiberglass doors for over 30 years and we have seen a huge improvement in the quality and selection.
Years ago fiberglass doors were used only for doors that had harsh exposure to the sun and rain.
Fiberglass not only resistant to the elements it is sturdy and has the crisp line that other synthetic materials just can not master.
There are advantages to wood if the door is extremely well protected from the elements. But the wood now a days is not the same as 30 years ago. The large diameter old growth trees and not available. The wood now comes from faster growing trees. There is a little more moisture in these and the sun dries them out and the wood shrinks a small percentage but enough to cause problems.
Also the stains, varnishes and paints have changed. Before 1978 products had lead as an agent that made paints and varnishes very tough. As we all know lead is dangers and now is not used. In more recent times the finishes became water based instead of oil base. Oil base is more flexible and was less likely to crack as the doors swell and contract through the seasons.
The water base finishes are very good but not as protective as the old oil based.
So when you compare wood and fiberglass and want to know which is better the answer depends on the exposure to the sun.
These 8' tall fiberglass doors can be used in pairs as double doors, single entry doors or a door with 2 sidelights (some prefer sidelite spelling).
The pictures may show only the door but there may be sidelights available.
At DP Door we have door and sidelights where the one of the side panels opens similar to a double door.
This is an option to help give your more room to move furniture through your entry door.
